Daddy Nose Best turned in a sharp work ahead of the Kentucky Derby
Daddy Nose Best after his spectacular run could be the dark horse of the Kentucky Derby, but same could be said about stable mate Sabercat, who will be joined by Daddy Nose Best in the gate of the Grade 1, $2million Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on 5
May, 2012.
Cathy and Robert Zollars owned Daddy Nose Best has been prolific in his last two starts, as he made his last two Kentucky Derby prep races count when it really mattered.
Steven Asmussen trained Daddy Nose Best hardly won anything in his juvenile season in eight starts last year with four at Churchill Downs, and when he got done as a juvenile he had a maiden special weight win to show for at fourth asking and an allowance
race at 1 mile on turf at Churchill Downs.
Other than that, it was looking really bad for Daddy Nose Best in terms of earning a spot in the Kentucky Derby, and for that he had to win everything that was thrown at him in his sophomore season, and boy didn’t he grab the opportunity with both hands.
The Kentucky bred son of Scat Daddy, out of mare Follow Your Bliss by Thunder Gulch, Daddy Nose Best landed his seasonal debut in the Grade 3 El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate Field, and the much lucrative Sunland Derby at Sunland Park, which really solidified
his chances of a spot in the Derby.
He further went on to indicate his sharpness with a bullet five furlongs in quick time of 1 minute and 1/5 seconds on 16 April, 2012, at Churchill Downs.
Daddy Nose Best is getting better with each start, as he showed that he can really turn it on when the heat is on as he earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 100 in the Sunland Derby at Sunland Park.
"We continue to be encouraged by Daddys development," said Scott Blasi, assistant to Steve Asmussen. "This morning’s work was visually impressive and he continues to move forward as he has done all spring. We are very pleased with where we are at."
