Daegu World championships to observe formidable athletes from the host nation – Athletics news
There is no doubt in the fact that athletics competitions are all about fun and entertainment, and thus, no matter at which part of the world they are organised, the response of the common people towards them is tremendous.
This already prevalent likeness about athletics has been added up well by the organisers at Daegu, as it seems that the extravaganza is being anxiously awaited for in Korea. In order to boost the excitement of local athletes, it has been decided to organise
local events that may help the local athletes in preparing themselves well for the upcoming competition.
The real fun for local spectators in the event is when Korean athletes will emerge in most of the disciplines of the tournament, as the track record of the nation in athletics contests has already been impressive. The way it is preparing itself for these
world championships, it seems that Korea will certainly bag a big number of medals in the event.
As the IAAF World Challenge is approaching, strong fields comprised of Olympics, World Champions and medallists are preparing themselves to appear for the final test, which has been scheduled to commence on August 27.
Starting from the women’s 100m race, Carmelita Jeter, the American athlete who also happens to be the world’s second fastest women and the victor of the inaugural Samsung Diamond Race Trophy, will attempt to beat her own record of 10.83 seconds which she
marked in 2009.
While contesting for the title in Daegu, Jeter will take on Lashaunte Moore and Marshevet Myres, winners of the Rome and London legs, respectively, of the Samsung Diamond League series 2010.
In the men’s competition of the 100m event, Walter Dix will be emerging as the favourite, while in the women’s 200m competition, Allyson Felix, the girl who bagged the World Championships thrice, will head for the title.
Dwelling upon the most anticipated races of the event, there will be 110m men’s Hurdles, where David Oliver, the record holder from America is expected to continue his winning streak. For claiming his this year’s Samsung title, Oliver will take on David
Payne, his compatriot and reigning Olympic silver medal winner, along with Dwight Thomas, the Jamaican record holder and two-time World Bronze medal winner.
The sprint competition for women athletes will present a severe battle where Dawn Harper, the winner of the 2008 Olympics, will take on Kellie Wells, the American who has been pursuing an impressive indoor season.
In the full lap barriers, the world champion of 2005 and reigning Olympic bronze medal winner, Bershawn Jackson, along with Angelo Taylor, the two times Olympic champion, will be enjoying the spotlight.
Just like the small distance races, the middle distances run will also enjoy the presence of some of the big names. For claiming the 800m title, the world 1500m champion and Berlin bronze medallist, Yusuf Saad from Bahrain, will take on to Boaz Lalang, the
emphatic runner from Kenya. While in the women’s 1500m event, Kalkidan Gezahegne, the world indoor champion from Ethiopia along with Tizita Bogale, the girl who holds the World Junior title, will encounter each other for earning the title of the event.
An important feature of the upcoming Daegu meeting will be the initiation of the women’s part of the IAAF Hammer Throw Challenge. The favourite athletes of the event will comprise of Tatyana Lysenko, former World record holder from Russia, along with China’s
