Dagmar Gudmundsson secures Girls 50 yard freestyle gold medal – Swimming news
Dagmar Gudmundsson of Hanford West High School-CC secured gold medal of Girls 50 yard freestyle on first day of the 2013 High School State Swimming Championships (CIF Central Division 2) on Wednesday, May 22.
Gudmundsson, who qualified into the playoff as top fastest swimmer, lived up to the expectations of her supporters by dominating the final round of shortest freestyle discipline. She remained in a commendable lead over her following swimmer and surfaced
on the wall for first position.
Gudmundsson failed to improve her timing in the playoff but with her astonishing pace, she managed to ascend on the medal rostrum for gold medal with the timing of 23.76 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Elizabeth Jacobs of Monache High School-CC, who remained almost 1.60 seconds slower and reached the finishing end for silver medal by producing a time of 25.29 seconds.
Subsequently, Jacobs remained only 0.15 seconds lucky over her toughest competitor, Symantha Lazerson of Bakersfield Christian High-CC, who completed the podium by finishing third in the race with the timing of 25.44 seconds.
The third position holder was chased by Haley Shafer of San Joaquin Memorial High School, who was only 0.12 seconds away from reaching the podium and ended her race in fourth place by posting a time of 25.56 seconds.
Fifth finest spot of the race was obtained by Macey Faust of Chowchilla High School, who was 0.28 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and concluded her race in fifth place with an effort of 25.84 seconds.
Sixth position of the event was obtained by Lea Salcido of Independence High School-CC, who suffered a loss of only 0.21 seconds from her preceding swimmer and reached the finishing end with the timing of 26.05 seconds.
Salcido was traced by Tayler Goates of Exeter Union High School, who was nearly a two arm strokes behind and concluded her race in a time of 26.32 seconds for seventh place.
Eighth position of the race was secured by Kaitlin Hatfield of Hanford West High School-CC, who was only 0.11 seconds away from Goates and ended her race in last place with the timing of 26.43 seconds.
In addition, Gudmundsson was extremely overjoyed with her top finish in the race and articulated that she would train harder in future to exceed the expectations of her supporters at the world level events. Furthermore, the position holders collected medals
and accolades at the prize ceremony of tournament.
