Dai Greene expresses the resolve to become a British record holder - Athletics news
With the entire summer season ahead, athletes who have been in good shape and displayed some outstanding performances in the events held in the near past, are looking forward to retain their fitness level so as to mark their dominance at the upcoming events
as well.
The most important one of all these events or tournaments, of course, is the world championships in Daegu, which is to commence in the last week of August. However, before that, there are two more events the athletes are looking forward to emerge at, which
include the Aviva Birmingham Grand prix and Aviva London Grand Prix.
An athlete, who is looking forward to dominate the fields at both of the events before appearing on the platform of world championships, is 400m Hurdler, Dai Green, who also happens to be the European and Commonwealth champion.
Welsh Hurdler, Greene, who represents both Wales and Great Britain while competing at the international levels, is the second fastest British runner ever for the discipline of 400m hurdles. However, now, while preparing himself for the ultimate grapple of
the IAAF World Championships, he vows to emerge as the national record holder of the country.
Currently, the British record for the 400m hurdle distance is possessed by Kriss Akabusi, former sprint and hurdling athlete of UK, who marked the feat for clocking 47.82 seconds back in 1992.
While commenting upon his resolve to take on to the record set by veteran, Akabusi, Greene said, “I certainly have the British record in my sights now and came really close at the Continental Cup in Split last year.”
He further revealed that in an occasional meeting he had with Kriss last year, the gold medallist of 1990 European Championships had agreed with the fact that the record established by him about 20 years ago, was not going to live long now. Continuing with
his comments, the formidable runner admitted that he had always wanted to win medals, but if ever he desires to be the best, it is crucial for him to attempt breaking records.
