Dai Greene prefers training for World Championships over London Grand Prix – Athletics news
David Dai Green, the Welsh hurdler who specialises in 400m hurdles, after his excuse to appear at the London Grand Prix amid non-ideal health conditions, said that he is perfectly fit now and is focused on preparing for this month’s IAAF World Athletics
Championships in Daegu.
Greene, the second fastest English runner for 400m hurdles, had been suffering from a virus due to which he had to withdraw his name from the London Grand Prix. However, now, when he has recovered completely, instead of going for the run to commence on this
coming Friday, he will rather focus on his preparations for the upcoming mega athletics event.
While sharing his thoughts on a social networking website, the Welsh athlete said, “For all those asking, I am no longer running at Palace on the weekend. (I) want to concentrate on training ahead of Daegu.”
For already acquiring a Commonwealth and European title, Greene, who was a part of the British trials in Birmingham in the 400m flat category, is now planning to add another feather to his cap, which is the World Championship in South Korea. Prior to targeting
the world championships event, the 25-year-old athlete has already appeared in the Diamond League meets organised in Rome, before claiming his successes in Lausanne and Birmingham.
However, things have not always been that good for the athlete as in July, while appearing at Monaco, he was pushed to a third position by his American counterpart, Angelo Taylor and the ever dominating, Bershawn Jackson.
Hinting towards the recent controversy, in his message for fans and media personnel, Greene wrote further, “I am not ill, Just want to do two weeks of hard training before I head to Korea, won’t be able to train much when there.”
Commenting about the seventh finisher of the last World Championships in Berlin, Malcolm Arnold, his coach said that the athlete was fit and they were spending time on some work out to get him better in the two weeks that they had before leaving for Daegu.
