Dai Walters expects Tanerko Emery to be competitive in Welsh Champion Hurdle
Dai Walters has set his eyes on the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las in England on Saturday, February 2, 2013. He will be trying his luck with the French challenger, Tanerko Emery, who has been given pretty decent odds for victory in the class-2 encounter.
The seven-year-old gelding has been given a general starting price of 4 to 1 and he will definitely get the attention of the punters. He has been delivering some terrific performances over the past few events, so hi confidence level will be high.
Overall, the seasoned runner has participated in a total of seven races, winning three of them whereas secured the runner up spot on a couple of times. He likes running on a rain affected ground and the conditions at Ffos Las have been described as heavy
by the organisers.
This will be a good sign for Tanerko Emery, as he managed to win his previous two races under similar conditions. His most recent outing saw him dominating the proceedings completely, as he finished on top of the table by a comfortable margin of five lengths.
However, he was rated as the favourite to succeed back then and things are a bit different this time around.
The bookmakers have shown full faith in the abilities of Oscara Dara, who has been priced 10 to 3. He will definitely attract the most number of bets in his favour, as he too is in spectacular form right now.
He has the ability to handle the wet conditions at Ffos Las and his team is hoping for a positive run today.
According to his trainer, Nicky Henderson, He does appear to handle soft ground and that's our one hope. He got an almighty heave for winning at Kempton which has put us in a pretty precarious position because he has to give a h**l of a lot of weight away.
It is at least a limited handicap and that's why we decided to come here.”
The weather seems to be a concern for the organisers, but clerk of the course, Tim Long said: “It's going to be wet, heavy, sloppy ground - that isn't going to change - but it's been a fair drying day. Although it could get down to freezing overnight, it
promises to be a dry, bright Saturday, with temperatures of 5C or 6C, so there won't be any problems.”
