Daiki Kameda grabs TKO victory over Jovanny Soto – Boxing News
Daiki Kameda, former WBA flyweight champion, was able to defeat Jovanny Soto, former superfly titlist from Mexico, in the fourth round. The bout between the two was held in Tokyo, Japan, on Monday. Ending the third round with a powerful body shot at the
side of the belly of Soto, Kameda made sure that by the fourth round his opponent was entirely worn out.
Daiki Kameda now stands with 24 wins, 3 losses and 16 knockouts in his portfolio. On the other hand, Soto is now at 34 wins, 14 losses, 1 draw and 29 knockouts. Having the better portfolio, Soto was the favourite for the fighter. Even though Kameda held
the hometown advantage, he still was being underrated. However, after brutally knocking out Soto in the fourth round, Kameda cemented his legacy as the better fighter between the two. Had Soto won, Daiki would have gone down the rails and probably would not
have gotten a fight as big as this one again.
Kameda, rated number 4 by the WBC at 115 pounds, lost to Tepparith Kokietgym last December via unanimous decision. It was his chance to grab the WBA super-fly belt but his opponent from Thailand outfoxed him during the bout to grab the win.
In addition, the event had Mexican Oscar Blanquet taking on Japan-based Filipino Wars Katsumata. Surprisingly, Oscar was able to finish the Filipino in just thirty three seconds, in the first round. The knockout came from a single left hook that Oscar delivered
to the Filipino. It was the first punch of the fight that not only connected but also became the show ending moment.
It should be noted here that Wars entered the ring with an unbeaten streak of five bouts. As of now, Oscar stands with 32 wins, 4 losses, 1 tie, and 23 knockouts, while Wars holds 17 wins, 6 losses and 15 knockouts in his portfolio. The thirty-three second
win adds to the impressive portfolio of Oscar. It was a crowd stunning moment when the spectators saw their favourite fighter going down in seconds. While Oscar did not have much support in the arena, he definitely became the seller with his left hook.
