Daily Dewormers??

Question

how come when you worm your horse you have to rotate chemicals but with a daily dewormer you dont? and all the daily ones are exactly the same... so its not like you can switch every once in a while. do they work & does anybody on here use them or are they just a waste of money?

I don't like them personally...

Seems to me...the worms would build up an immunity to something they are exposed to every single day.  And I agree..."How would you rotate to avoid the worms becoming immune??"

And I've had friends try them...they weren't happy with them either.

by using daily dewormer you are continually killing off any new populations of eggs before they get the chance to mature and they can't develop immunity if they never mature.....the resistance to dewormers that is developing in larvae is less likely when you aren't allowing larvae to develop in the first place, so rotation isn't needed.  Ideally, if you have your horses on a daily program, few or no larvae will develop.

I use daily dewormer and paste 4 times a year, alternating products just in case a few eggs make it to the larval stage.

I thin kthey are a waste of money although it is totally up to you. Have your horses got worms since you started using them? If so...they might not be a good thing (you'd have already figured that out) but I think it is cheaper and easier with seasonal dewormers. Everyone has their own opinion though. The daily ones won't be as powerful as seasonal (which could also be a bad thing)

i just seasonally deworm my mare.. i dont understand why people would use daily dewormers... but the seasonal dewormers change because there are different parasites that are more common during different climates..

I deworm my horses every few months. But it also depends on if your horses are all in a pen togethr, and if they are eating off ground that hasnt been "picked" up latly.

It also depends on what demormer you use.
