Dairy cattleshowers, what kind of cattle clippers are you using?

My daughter and I show dairy cattle and are looking into replacing one of our cattle clippers. Have always used Stewart/Sunbeam clippers, (I believe they are made by Oster now), with good results. Have been looking at andis brand because they are lighter weight and said to be 'cooler running'. Anyone used this brand? Suggestions on other dependalbe brands? Been checking web-sites for good buys. Any suggestions??

  1. i always showed slick humpies, but i carried around a small set of andis clippers to trim sheaths or any other hair that needed trimming on them, when i showed brangus we used stewart clippers but also used andis for any fine trimming that needed to be done, my andis are over 20 years old and still work as good as the day i took them out of the box

  2. We show cattle and we use Andis.  They not only run cooler and they are very light.  they hold up very good.  We have had them get kicked, fell of tack box and they still keep on cliping.

  3. I don't show dairy, but I do show beef cattle and have worked clipping for many summers. I prefer Oster, I just bought these for my younger brothers.

  4. I have been using Stewart/Sunbeam as well.  They have bene great.  The pair that I have now have been mine since 1996.  I had to take them apart and clean the inside out, and I have replaced the blades a few times, but I am happy with them overall.

Just make sure that you wash the cattle before you clip them so that the clippers won't get as much dirt and dust on the inside.  Use Kool Lube on them, and clean out all the hair when you are done with them....

I show Holteins and Jerseys in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. How about you?

  5. i usually use that brand, and it ALWAYS gave me great results...maybe you should just stick to stewart/sunbeam.....they work better than any other one ive used

  6. i use the econom brand, it is a lighter clipper, but it doesn't run cooler, it gets really hot. but you need to do your research to. decide what your needs are when you are shopping for you clippers. if this is just a begginer deal, just get the body clippers. if you are into the professional stuff, you need a blower for top lines, the body clippers, a top line brush and small clippers to do ears and tails and finer details. you may also want to invest in clippers the do legs to if you are proffesional. but the best thing to do is go to a local store and order what you need
