Daisy Devine to build up on her last win going into the Pago Hop Stakes
The $75,000 Pago Hop Stakes has reeled in 9 runners to compete for the purse over the Fair Grounds race course’s turf at about a mile on 26 November, 2011. The Pago Hop Stakes is restricted for 3-year-old fillies and the main protagonist of the race is the
3-year-old Andrew McKeever trained filly, Daisy Devine.
James M. Miller owned filly has had a pretty good season so far where she has gone on to bag two graded stakes races, and her recent win came in her last outing when she took the field in the Grade 3 Valley View Stakes at Keeneland on 21 October, 2011.
Over at 1 1/16 mile on grass, Daisy Devine with Calvin Borel in irons went up against a pretty solid lineup, but came out as the victor as she tackled Bizzy Caroline who finished second and left behind the third placed In Step to cover the 1 1/16 mile distance
in 1 minute and 43.30 seconds.
Daisy Devine looms a strong choice when she faces eight other rivals, despite her indifferent performance in the Grade 3 Iowa Oaks compared to her Valley View win.
It was an unplaced finish in the Grade 3 Iowa Oaks, where Daisy Devine at Prairie Meadows finished fifth to winner Little Miss Holly in the 1 1/16 mile contest on dirt on 25 June, 2011.
The Iowa Oaks performance came at the back on a seventh place finish in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks, but it was a different outlook to the field altogether compare to what other events have dished out to her.
The likes of Plum Pretty and Zazu were to be overhauled in order to come out of the race as a victor, easier said than done, Daisy Devine couldn’t do much about the pace of the race in the end and the level of runners competing as she wilted to finish seventh
at Churchill Downs on 6 May, 2011.
The daughter of Distorted Humor, Poof Too, could prove to be the dark horse in the Pago Hop Stakes, she is also coming off a second place finish in an allowance claimer race at Woodbine.
