Daiya Seto dominates Men’s 200m IM prelims – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Daiya Seto of Japan dominated the qualifying rounds of Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on day two of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Doha, Qatar on Sunday, October 7.
The Japanese swimmer smothered hopes of his opponents in the 200m discipline as he showed his urgency towards the finishing wall for first position.
Seto enjoyed a comfortable lead over his strongest challenger and made his way to the playoff by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 01.33 seconds for first position.
His gruelling pace remained 1.20 seconds faster from Simon Sjoedin of Sweden, who earned his way to the finishing end as second best finisher by producing a time of 2 minutes and 02.53 seconds.
Sjoedin was followed by Darian Townsend of South Africa, who stayed almost 0.70 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall as third best finisher by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 03.22 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Laszlo Cseh of Hungary, who stayed one and a half body length behind and showed his urgency towards the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 04.82 seconds.
Cseh was chased by Chun Nam Derick Ng of Hong Kong, who was considerably slower from his foregoing finisher and occupied fifth best spot of the event by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 08.87 seconds.
Sixth finest qualification spot of the race was obtained by Sheng Jun Pang of Singapore, who was 0.26 seconds behind and completed his race in a time of 2 minutes and 09.13 seconds.
Similarly, Pang was trailed by Kai Wai David Wong of Hong Kong, who stayed nearly two body lengths apart and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 10.81 seconds.
Wong remained 1.15 seconds ahead of Gergo Kis of Hungary, who managed to secure eighth best position of the race and ensured his place into the final round by producing a time of 2 minutes and 11.96 seconds.
In addition, Seto was happy with his top finish and said that he would struggle hard to do the same in playoff.
