Daiya Seto earns Men’s 400m IM gold medal: Day three – 2012 NSW State Open Championship
Japanese specialist, Daiya Seto presented his stupendous skills and earned the title of Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on the third day of the 2012 New South Wales (NSW) State Open Championships at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on February 12.
The 17-year-old Seto remained untouchable from the start and overpowered his rivals by reaching the medal rostrum for gold medal.
With his nerve-wrecking performance, he completed his first round of the swim in a time of 58.55 seconds. He remained nearly two seconds away from his subsequent swimmer, Mitch Larkin, who ended his first round in a time of 1 minute and 00.92 seconds.
Seto continued his smothering efforts in the second round, where he extended his lead to almost 3.50 seconds by completing his initial half of the race in a time of 2 minutes and 04.04 seconds. He was followed by 18-year-old Larkin, who sustained his second
fastest spot of the race by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 07.68 seconds for the initial half.
The same continued in third round, where Seto sustained his pace and strengthened his position for the crown of the event by reporting a time of 3 minutes and 14.91 seconds for the initial 300 metres. In contrast, Larkin stayed nearly nine seconds behind
him and ended his third round with the timing of 3 minutes and 23.35 seconds.
The audience witnessed ruthless efforts of Seto in the final round, where he claimed gold medal of the race by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 13.78 seconds.
He was shadowed by Larkin, who remained almost ten seconds behind him and touched the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 23.04 seconds. The silver medallist experienced strong battle from the 20-year-old Daniel Tranter, who was just 0.38 seconds slower
from Larkin and settled on the podium for third position by producing an effort of 4 minutes and 23.42 seconds.
The championship concluded after the completion of all scheduled events in Men and Women’s category whereas the winners were awarded medals and accolades for their phenomenal efforts in the 400m IM discipline.
