Daiya Seto seizes Men’s 400m IM gold - FINA Swimming Championships (25m)
Daiya Seto of Japan seized gold medal of the Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on second day of the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) at Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey, on Thursday, December 13.
The Japanese swimmer dictated terms to his challengers in the distant IM discipline and proved his eligibility for the crown.
With his persistent efforts, Seto remained prominently ahead of his toughest challenger and stepped on the victory stand for gold medal by producing a time of 3 minutes and 59.15 seconds.
His gold claiming effort remained 1.35 seconds faster from Laszlo Cseh of Hungary, who followed him on the finishing blockade for silver medal by clocking an effort of 4 minutes and 00.50 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by David Verraszto of Hungary, who stayed 2.37 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and transpired on the finishing blockade for bronze medal by producing an effort of 4 minutes and 02.87 seconds.
Verraszto was chased by Kosuke Hagino of Japan, who stayed 1.26 seconds slower and concluded his race in fourth best place by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 04.13 seconds.
The fourth position holder was traced by Gal Nevo of Israel, who remained 0.16 seconds slower and settled on the finishing blockade for fifth position by touching the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 04.29 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Chris Christensen of Denmark, who stayed two and a half body length behind and emerged on the finishing wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 06.81 seconds.
Christensen remained almost a body length ahead of Michael Weiss of USA, who finished his race in seventh place by producing an effort of 4 minutes and 07.67 seconds.
Eighth position of the discipline was followed by Diogo Carvalho, who stayed 2.28 seconds apart and touched the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 09.95 seconds.
Furthermore, Seto received massive admiration from the audience for his gruelling efforts in the event and said that he would try his best to continue the same in future.
