Daktronics see-through shot clock in the NBA

Why is the Shot Clock above the backboard bigger than the one behind the backboard? Why can't the one behind the backboard be the same size as the one above the backboard? Thank you for your help.

  2. It all has to do with being able to see it better when playing. Some people have problems seeing it if its to small, but not many.
