Dale Junior is he better than RICHARD PETTY?

I hear about him all the time I want to start to watch Nascar more and he seems to be the number 1 man to beat from what I hear. Is he has good as Richard P?

in all honesty dale jr might not have the stats but has the legecey  behind him kyle busch has had recent succes or better known as the 18 car but he is getting some kind of manufaturing boost to and altought  richard petty has over 100 wins 7 championships and about 3 daytona 500 wins dale was in the  bussiness since 1998 has 18 wins 5 at talledega and a daytona 500 win so dale might not look like much on paper but hes the guy almost everyone is rooting for on race day  and nascar isnt about favoirte drivers anyway( well maybe a littel ) but its also about hanging out with your buddies and kicking back and relaxing and listen to the best commentating in sports

Dale Jr. may be the most POPULAR driver in nascar..but no way is he better than Richard Petty!

right now..this season Kyle Busch is the man to beat.

but if you look at the current drivers overall careers...i'd say Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, or Tony Stewart are the main guys to look out for.

Richard Petty in 1967 won 10 races in a row....27 races that season. Those are records that will never be broken...Richard Paetty raced in just under 1200 races, so he has a win every 6 races, alf of his races were top 10s.

Only a handfull of drivers really had that pace, Pearson was very good, so was Jounior johnson, and Ned Jarrett.

No he is not the best he is just the one that everyone likes. He's the 3rd best currently. But um, see, no one in the universe ever (well, maybe Dale Jr.'s dad) will be as good as RIchard Petty.

What a lame answer by a top contributor. With more wins than Kyle and 2 thats TWO! Nationwide championships to boast about I think Jr is as of now more of a winner than Kyle. Sorry Kyle, no offense, your younger and have not been around long enough. Just fact bro!

As for the question....  Two differant eras, two differant drivers. I love "The King" he was my first driver when I was very young. Today it is Jr with Bill Elliott in between. The cars Richard drove and the competition was differant from Bill's reign and way differant than these things they call "stock Cars?" of today. So this comparison can never be made in reality....

Welcome to the world of NASCAR. Jr is good and many people seem to forget his dad didn't really hit it big until about the age Jr is now. But they don't know history that much. Might I suggest you just watch the races, listen to the interviews and read up on the history and read the drivers bio and make you personal choice as to who you will pull for. RP, BE, and JR all have something in common and that it why I pull for Jr. Common sense, humility and fan loyalty and appreciation are only a few of all three of their qualities.

Please. This is a joke. Dale Jr. is good. Jeff Gordon is better (even if I don't like it.) But none can top Richard Petty. Dale Jr. learned alot from his dad Dale Earnhardt Sr. Dale Sr. was the man. Him and Petty would have been the dominant team. But I don't think Jr. Will ever be as good as Petty. Jr. only has 18 or so wins in his career and he has been racing for almost 10 years now. Petty raced for 30 years or something and he has 200 wins. If Jr. wants to be better he better start now and not give up until he retires!

Uh no.  Jr. actually isn't as good or better than about 10 other drivers, in my opinion.  He's a decent driver, but I don't think he is a great driver.... before I get bashed by Jr. Nation, let me state that I actually like Jr.  The guy has been thru a lot in his life and has come out a decent human being... but look at other racers like Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon and do the math.

Where do you "hear" your info?  Jr. is the most popular, but Petty is the King.  No one will EVER beat his record, because, it was a different generation of racing, with different rules and regs.  Maybe you should pay attention to the races and the stats and then ask your questions.

In 1184 races Richard Petty won 200 races had 712 top 10s and 123 poles. That from 1958 to 1992.

In 9 1/2 (aprox) years Dale Jr has won 18 races had 132 top tens and 8 poles in 344 races to date. If Jr goes on a streak for 10 years or so and can win half of the races he enters he might get close to Richard Pettys stats.

I'm a big Dale Jr fan but to  try to lump him in the same category as Richard Petty is way off.

This question is impossible to answer.

Richard and Dale Jr. are from completely different era's of racing, so it's not possible to answer this question factually. That, and Richard completely dominated nearly every race he won, the competition wasn't nearly as stiff now as it was back then, he most likely  wouldn't have had as many victories as he does now if he were racing in this era of NASCAR.
