Dale Parker surprised as he will represent RadioShack for Tour of Utah
Tour of Utah is starting from August 9 and 120 cyclists from 16 different teams will contribute in the Tour that will extend up to 409 miles with six days of riding. Australian cyclist Dale Parker and Kiwi George Bennett have been added to Team RadioShack
squad for the Tour.
The young rider Dale Parker was surprised when he found out his name on the team’s list as he believed that despite his good performances, he is still too young and was not expecting his inclusion in the team.
The 19-year-old told a famous cycling website that racing in the Tour of Utah had always been his dream and he will get to live his dream by cycling in the 2 kilometre prologue of the Tour.
Earlier this year, Parker badly injured himself in Redlands as he was involved in a crash and as a result he had to miss out the training sessions. Weeks later in Tour of Gila, Parker came back with his first win of the 2011 season as he nailed a six second
victory during the 26.6 kilometre time trials and believed it to be the turning point of his career as he stated, “Today was my day, and it is an honour to be next to these d**n good riders.”
Parker was delighted with his performance in time trials as he explains that he had a good start and straight away had the feeling that he can get through it as he was in the front for a long time. He felt really confident after the win as he said, “I knew
I was strong in time trial in juniors but I think I’ve sort of made myself aware that I can be a good time triallist.”
After being selected for the Tour of Utah Parker shared his thoughts with media as he said, “I’ve just go to the motel and got my kit and went for a ride with George. It’s starting to feel a bit more real. It’s going to be good to meet all the guys and I’m
enjoying myself.”
The Australian is looking forward to the London Olympics and is hopeful that he will be able to perform under pressure and can produce same sort of results. Parker will be moving back to Australia to continue his training for the 2012 London Olympics right
after the USA Pro Cycling Challenge.
