Dale Steyn all praise for Mark Boucher – Cricket News Update

Spearhead of the South African bowling attack, Dale Steyn, has come out in support of his teammate and wicketkeeper/batsman, Mark Boucher. Steyn believes that Boucher has reached the heights of greatness and it is not going to be possible for South Africa
to produce another cricketer like him.

Boucher completed his 500 catches in Test cricket when he safely pouched Phil Hughes off the bowling of Vernon Philander, on the first day of the first Test against Australia on November 9, 2011, at Cape Town.

The wicketkeeper made his Test debut against Pakistan in 1997, and since then he has been a permanent member of the Proteas squad in all the formats of the game. However, since the last one year, there have been some question marks over his place in the
limited overs team and this is the reason why South Africa opted for AB de Villiers to keep wickets in a number of matches.

Steyn feels that 500 catches in Test cricket is no mean achievement and it speaks volumes for the ability of Boucher. The number one fast bowler of the world expressed that such great cricketers are not born every day and he must be respected. Steyn is of
the opinion that Boucher cannot be ignored in any format of the game for South Africa.

"That is serious, I don't think anyone will catch up to him really. What a player. If anybody ever wrote him off, he's coming out again and showing what he's worth on the field and how valuable he is," said Steyn.

Apart from 500 catches, Boucher has 22 stumpings in Test cricket and 425 dismissals in One Day Internationals. Although Adam Gilchrist of Australia is rated as the best wicketkeeper/batsman in the history of Test cricket, but Boucher is surely not far behind.

Steyn said that there would be many talented wicketkeepers coming up for the Proteas but it is not going to be possible for South Africa to replace a cricketer like the veteran Boucher.

"There might be other talented players out there, but there will never be another Mark Boucher," he added.
