http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Smith-c1473 back Imran Tahir – Cricket News Update
Team South Africa’s two senior players, the pacer Dale Steyn, and the Test skipper Graeme Smith, have backed their teammate, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-c64193 Tahir, hoping that the spinner will soon be able to cement his place in the team by demonstrating some good performances.
Tahir, who staged his Test debut on November 9 at Cape Town, could not take a single wicket despite bowling 10 overs and conceding 35 runs. His place in the 2nd
Test squad was uncertain, but the selectors have decided to give the Pakistan-born another chance to show his guts. Moreover, the spinner has gained the mandate of his seniors.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Smith-c90598 believes that Tahir’s maiden Test has proved to be confidence-builder for him, and he is likely to turn better in the next game
Talking to the media, the Test captain said, “Imran's first Test would have been good for his self-confidence and he will continue to grow into his new role. He has already learnt a lot from the couple of overs he bowled, but the overhead conditions and
batting service offered very little assistance - while the seamers were able to cash in.”
Steyn added, “He lacks nothing and he knows he will get his chance to win Tests for the team. In our last number of series we lacked a quality spinner that could dismiss our opponents' tail-end batsmen - and when the conditions are in his favour, Imran will
do it.”
The Proteas are going to take on the depleted Aussies on November 17 at Johannesburg. The home team played magnificently in the opening match and won with a margin of 8 wickets, bowling the opponents out for merely 47 runs in their second innings.
As there was enough moisture in the Cape Town pitch, Imran, being a leg-spinner, could not control the ball and remained wicket less. The 32-year-old made his ODI debut earlier this year in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup 2011. He stunned all by grabbing 14 wickets
in just 5 ODIs.
The right-arm spinner has very impressive records in domestic cricket, possessing 585 First-Class wickets. The coming Test will be a big challenge for him as he has to justify his place by taking some wickets.
