http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DW-Steyn-c1409 confident that Deccan Chargers can still make an impression in IPL 5 – Cricket News Update
South Africa’s premier fast bowler, Dale Steyn, feels that no team can be tagged as favourites in the on-going Indian Premier League (IPL) because of the shorter format and added that his team, the Deccan Chargers can still qualify for the final, despite
losing the first two matches.
Steyn is the spearhead of the Chargers and has performed well in the first two matches of the fifth season. However, his team has got off to a poor start in the tournament.
Presently cricket pundits are rating the Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians as the favourites to win the event. Chargers are not rated very highly because they do not seem to have the depth in batting and apart from Steyn,
their bowling also seems meek.
However, Steyn feels that it is a long tournament and Deccan still has a chance to make-up for the initial losses. One of the world’s best bowlers feels that T20 is a funny game in which things can drastically change for any team.
Steyn is confident that his team will gain the momentum sooner rather than later, and this is just the beginning of the tournament, and all the teams are trying to find the right combination.
"I think the two losses are a blessing in disguise. It’s always good to progress along a learning curve rather than hitting the top right at the start. They need to assess their strengths and weaknesses and play accordingly which will be crucial in such
a long tournament," Steyn said.
The fast bowler feels that his team has got match-winners and once Deccan gets the combination right, they are going to be the team to beat in the event.
He added, "Any team can do well in this format and we are no exceptions considering the players we have on our cards. If we get a couple of wins and achieve the winning momentum then I don’t think there is any reason that we can’t reach the final."
Steyn’s team really needs to improve the results if they are to have any chances of making the play-offs.
