South African spearhead, Dale Steyn, is still relishing in the recent victory at the Oval against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hamisi-Abdallah-c61368 and Jacques Kallis.
The Proteas pace man was providing his insight into the historic events during the first Test match of the Investec Test series, and shared some exclusive information from the Proteas dressing room for his readers.
“I will tell you something about Hashim Amla. He batted with the same pair of batting gloves for his first run as he did for his 300th. Just one pair for more than 13 hours at the crease,” Steyn revealed.
Amla became the first South African to score a triple century in a Test match and went on to make a number of new records during his marathon innings that lasted more than 13 hours.
The right-hander batsman, who later expressed his happiness, downplayed his mammoth effort and gave the credit to his teammates, who are vying to become the world’s top test side by winning the ongoing Investec series.
“Hash is a fabulous guy and a great batsman and you could see in the celebrations. Our silent warrior reacts exactly the same whether he has scored 30 or 300,” the Proteas spearhead further added.
The right-arm fast bowler also paid homage to his side’s veteran star Kallis, who sacrificed a chance to make his first double-ton on English soil in favour of his team’s cause as the Proteas declared their innings on 637 for 2, leaving the veteran 18 runs
short of another personal landmark.
This is the 36-year-old’s fourth tour of England and only his second century, with the first coming in 1998 series.
“Smith and Kirsten went up to him and said 'you're 18 away from a double hundred. What do you want to do?' And Jacques replied 'do whatever is best for the team. That's the important thing,” the 29-year-old bowler recalled.
