Dale Steyn wants Deccan Chargers to finish IPL with a bang
The spearhead of Deccan Chargers’ bowling attack, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792 on Tuesday, May 10, 2011.
The World’s No. 1 bowler conceded that they cannot make the final four, however, he said that they can still end the tournament with a bang.
“Numerically we can’t make the play-offs anymore but there is a lot of belief in the camp that we can still finish the tournament on a high,” said Steyn in an interview with a leading http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 sports channel. “We have not actually played the best cricket we
could have played,” he added.
When asked about the areas where the Chargers faltered during the tournament, the Proteas speedster said that they lacked in fielding and their batting was a matter of concern.
“In last couple of games we have dropped some viable catches and failed to score some big runs as well so all the problem is we just missed out on,” he added.
Steyn stressed that their losses have been really close and their wins have been very convincing. He added that it was a learning tournament for the newly built Deccan team and hoped that they will recognize the weak areas and make a strong comeback next
season.
When asked about his new-ball partnership with gangling India pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ishant-Sharma-c64566, the South African said he has been fantastic all through the tournament. He, however, felt for Sharma for missing out on the World Cup.
“He was probably unfortunate that he didn’t make the world cup side. Which could have been a big highlight in his career,” said Steyn. “He came in the IPL with a bang. And he has shown what he has got,” he added.
The speedster reckoned that Sharma’s sparkling performance in the IPL will put the Indian selectors under pressure and urged them to select the pacer in the national side for the upcoming tours.
With three wins in ten games, the Kumar Sangakkara-led Deccan Chargers stand at the bottom of the points table, just above the Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833, and that too because of a better run rate.
