Former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 manager, Kenny Dalglish, believes there is no fixed definition of the word success in football, claiming that it varies with the reality of a club.
The veteran Scott pointed out that for some teams, staying in the Premier League itself was an accolade. Hence, he said that the clubs need to set proper targets before the start of the season and evaluate the performance of a manager by that standard.
The owners of the Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s parent company, fired the 61-year old from the management in view of the Reds abysmal eighth place finish last season. Although he helped the Merseyside outfit end their six-year title drought by winning
the Carling Cup in February and also guided them to the final of the FA Cup, it was not enough to prevent the owners from relieving him from his duties.
The reins of the club were then handed over to Brendan Rodgers in June, who has been set the target of lifting the team higher up the pecking order.
Nonetheless, Dalglish opined that the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 of a manager has become more difficult than it was a couple of decades ago.
However, he insisted that there was no fixed understanding of success, as different clubs have different targets for their respective campaigns.
“Success is gauged in different ways. It is a bit different now to what it was before,” he told the reporters in an interview.
“I am sure if you asked some of the clubs, fourth-bottom is success. Everyone has a different idea. Staying in the Premier League is success because the value of the league is a trophy in itself because of the financial reward.”
“But [you must] put the marker down before the start of the season and then judge a manager at the end of the season.”
The Scott has already engraved his name as one of Liverpool greatest. As a player, he won six league titles with the Reds and also claimed the winners’ medal three times in the European Cup. Furthermore, it was under his management that the Reds won their
last league title back in 1990.
