Liverpool manager, Kenny Dalglish believes that he faces an enormous task of reinvigorating the Reds, and pointed out that the players are lacking in confidence and self-belief.
The Reds, who are going through their worst run in the English league since 1953, have looked completely out of sorts this year. So far, Dalglish’s men have only managed 2 wins in 2012 and have plummeted to the middle of the table.
Their performance this season is in sharp contrast with what the club have achieved in their illustrious past. The Reds have won a staggering 18 league titles, only one less than their English rivals Manchester United. Besides which, the Anfield side have
won the FA Cup on seven occasions, and have also got eight league cups to their name. Throughout the 70’s and the 80’s, the Merseyside team remained a force to be reckoned with. The Reds have also won the European Cup on five occasions.
However, Dalglish admitted that there was a lot of work to be done to lift the club to the European stage, and mentioned that a difficult path lay ahead of him, to try and emulate their rich history.
"It is always difficult to get back to where they were because they were so high up," Dalglish told reporters.
“But it [the method for success] has not changed too much really - it takes a lot of hard work and a lot of effort.”
Dalglish, who himself had received many accolades during his playing days, pointed out that he has got a number of good players in the squad, but believed that a lack of confidence had thwarted the Reds progress.
“We have good players who can get there but you need confidence and belief in yourself and you need a bit of luck.” He added.

However, the 61 year old urged his side to keep working hard, in order to reclaim and restore their dominance in European football. He highlighted the fact, that even though his side have struggled to show consistency in the league, the successes that they
have achieved in other competitions, goes to show their capability and potential.
“We just have to keep on going and believing and try to keep our confidence up that the hard work will be rewarded eventually.”
The Reds are vying to salvage their current season by winning the FA Cup, and will square off against their Merseyside rivals, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 in the semi-final on 14th of April.
