Scores of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 fans lost their lives in a stampede which occurred in one of the terraces in Sheffield during an FA Cup match back in 1989.
According to some earlier investigations, the major reason behind the horrific incident was the failure of the police to control the passage of the crowd at the entrance.
However, it is widely believed that the report, which is due to be released today, will entail detailed answers to a lot of questions, and could reveal shocking discoveries.
Dalglish, who was then the manager at Anfield, is closely following the activities of the panel. He mentioned that he was desperate to know the details of the accident, which remains to this date the biggest tragedy in the Merseyside club’s history.
“I just hope that after all this time the families get a great deal of solace from whatever comes out,” he told the reporters.
“The way they have conducted themselves over the last 23 years and the dignity that they have shown has never been anything short of remarkable and they’ve got the full admiration of myself and many, many others for that.”
All in all, 96 people lost their lives in the calamitous incident, while 766 people suffered injuries of different nature. Consequently, the standing terraces were removed from all the stadiums in Britain.
Even though 23 years have elapsed since the occurrence of the tragedy, Dalglish feels the discoveries of the panel will serve to ease the pain of those who lost their loved ones in it.
He remained hopeful that the report will be able to cover all the details, and answers all the questions which have remained in people’s minds for so long.
“They need to be given the answers to the questions that they have been asking. All we can do is hope that it is as positive an outcome.”
