Liverpool’s boss, Kenny Dalglish has asked his side to carry on with their winning momentum and look for a strong finish to the season.
The Reds won the Carling cup this season, beating Cardiff City in the final at Wembley to end the club’s six year title drought.
On Sunday, the Anfield side beat Stoke City 2-1 in the quarterfinal of the FA Cup, thanks to a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809
skipper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 score the first hat-trick in a Merseyside derby since 1982.
Dalglish has asked his players to maintain their current winning streak and stressed the need for showing consistency. After winning the Carling Cup, Liverpool succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland. However, the Reds came out
victorious three days later against Everton.
"It always helps when you are consistent - the best teams are always consistent and we want to get there," said Dalglish while talking to reporters.
"It has been a fantastic effort so far and they have a lot to play for between now and the end of the season.” He added.
The Reds are currently placed seventh in the league table. In the 28 matches that they have played so far in the league this season, the Merseyside team have won on 11occasions, lost 9 matches and were held on to a draw 9 times.
The team’s home form has been especially worrisome for Dalglish, with his team being guilty of profligacy on a host of occasions. This has resulted in the team being held to a draw, 8 times at home, while suffering a lone loss against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 in a match,
which saw http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380 score the winner in stoppage time.
However, the Scot has lauded the efforts of his players lately and hoped that they will come up with their best in the closing stages of the season.
"You could see by the way the boys went about their work during the game [against Stoke] that they wanted to win and that is really pleasing and satisfying for everyone.” He said
"We have got to be applying ourselves properly between now and the end of the season."
Liverpool will take on Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 in their next match on Wednesday at Loftus Road. QPR, who find themselves in the relegation zone currently, will be looking for a win that would help them leapfrog Bolton Wanderers to the 17th spot.
A defeat or draw for Liverpool will effectively end their quest for a top four finish.
