The American based company bought the Merseyside club in October 2010. Since then they have invested heavily in Liverpool, in an effort to return Champions League football at Anfield.
However, the Reds underwent a bruising league campaign in the 2011/12 season which saw them finish at the eighth place in the final standings, and subsequently failed to secure a place in the coveted European competition.
FSG, who had set Dalglish the target of finishing the league in the top-four, summoned him to Boston in order to discuss his future after the final game of the season against Swansea City. And after much deliberation and consideration, he was sacked on Wednesday
afternoon.
Nevertheless Dalglish, who remains one of the most decorated figures in the clubs history, spoke highly of his former employers, and felt that they had taken some big decisions in the best interest of the club. He also pointed out that FSG took over Liverpool
at a time when they were going through a difficult period and have since taken it forward.
He told the reporters, “The owners have their own reasons for doing what they have done. They came in to help the club at a time when it wasn't in a great condition; they have improved it, taken it forward and are doing the best they can.”
The 61-year old also mentioned that Liverpool is a club with an illustrious history, and dismissed the notion that his axing will derail their progression. He also caste light on the fans unwavering support and trust at Liverpool, and indicated that they
will stand alongside the Reds no matter what changes are made in the management.
One of the downsides of Dalglish’s stint has been the failure of the signings that he made during his first year in charge. Liverpool spent more than 100 million pounds last year to buy seven players, including Andy Carroll, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-Henderson-c19102.
However, Dalglish justified his decision by highlighting the fact that two of his signings (Carroll and Downing) have also won a place in the England’s squad for the upcoming Euro 2012.
He said: “It's fantastic for the club and those players - and I hope they go on and represent everybody well.”
He went on to praise the new players for quickly adjusting to the conditions at Anfield, and felt that the Reds were headed in the right direction.
