Question:

Dalit rebellion?

I understand that in Indian cities and metropolitan areas, caste discrimination is much reduced, and most people are modern and secular.

However in the more rural areas, has there been Dalit rebellions? I can't believe that a class of people would take this much **** for so long.

Is the Indian Maoist rebellion mostly caused by oppression to lower castes?

  1. There is a point in what you say. However, a correction. Most of the insurgents and the Maoists are from the tribal group, another marginalised section of the Indian society. As far as the Dalit are concerned, you cannot say that they have risen in rebellion against the state as the Maoist are doing. They have organised themselves politically and seeking their share in the political game and they are proving successful even. The Communist parties draw their support from the Dalit but that support base is slowing being eroded with the Caste based parties emerging and luring them away.
