Dalkala takes easy victory in Betfred Middleton Stakes
Dalkala lived up to her reputation by succeeding in the Betfred Middleton Stakes (Group 2) at York in England on Thursday, May 16, 2013. She was given the best odds for victory and did not disappoint her fans at all.
The American filly was not rated as the outright favourite though, as there were some decent challengers up against her in the race. Therefore, she had to stay focussed right from the start until the end in order to make a strong impression.
This was exactly what she did, as she ran a smooth race overall. She was quick out of the traps, but did not exceed the limits in order to save some energy for the final few moments. There were no major problems for her in the end, as she comfortably finished
on top of the table by one length.
Luckily for her, the conditions were good for racing and she did not have to push hard for the victory. Her team bagged a cash prize of £56,710 in the end, which would have been quite pleasing for the owners.
Her trainer Alain Royer-Dupre stated, “She had a preparation race, which was a big help. She maybe got there a bit soon but she stayed well. She could come back for the Yorkshire Oaks, although maybe she is not quite that level.”
Overall, this was the fifth victory for Dalkala, who has participated in a total of nine events until now. Other than that, she has also finished third once, which shows that she is quite capable of battling at the front. She did not get an ideal start to
the start of the season, but bounced back strongly, which proves that she knows how to handle pressure at the highest level.
On the other hand, runner up filly Ambivalent would have made her team proud too, as she delivered a pretty decent race. This was the first race of 2013 for her and she did not look rusty at all. There were a few ups and downs for her during the race, but
she managed to battle at the front in the end.
Her trainer Roger Varian will not be hoping that she continues delivering consistent results throughout the ongoing season.
