Dallas Cowboys Barry Church staying positive – NFL News
The 2012 National Football League (NFL) season seems over for Dallas Cowboys safety Barry Church, who was injured during Week 3 game against Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
However, the player, despite knowing that he has blurred prospects now, has come out of the gloom, expressing optimism about his future chances.
After receiving the season-ending injury, Church was clearly disappointed. He was not even able to walk properly and now the player requires a surgery that will keep him on rehabilitation for the next few months.
The player was sidelined due to an Achilles tendon tear and recovery from such injuries is usually pretty tough. Such injuries sometimes even dent long-term prospects of many players.
Church knows it all and wants to fight the injury to continue his NFL career.
He had done well to reach this far in his career after going undrafted in 2010. Cowboys eventually signed him as an undrafted free agent and the player worked his way through to the top to earn a starting role this year.
According to the details present on the team’s website, the news of missing the entire season certainly made the player dejected, but he is upbeat about his prospects now. Church said:
“On the sidelines it was kind of just shock, like, wow, this really happened. But once I sat down I just kind of had a little talk with myself and figured, you know, you can’t be negative about everything. If you keep on the negative, you’re just going to
become a negative person, so I’ve got to keep upbeat and keep positive, and see what happens.”
Church started all three games this season and could manage only six tackles. It was his first season as the team’s regular starter. He had started one out of 15 games in the 2011 season.
His contract with the Cowboys will expire in 2013 and there are fears that the team might not retain him because of the injury. However, the player is not thinking of that right now. He said:
“I’ll be at the house for a while just relaxing with the cast, but I just can’t let it get the best of me. I’ve got to go out there and continue to get better.”
