Dallas Cowboys CB Mike Jenkins might not be available against New York Giants, thinks Jerry Jones
As predicted earlier, the Dallas Cowboys might not be able to have services of cornerback Mike Jenkins in the regular season opener against New York Giants on September 05.
The opinion was strengthened when the Cowboys’ owner and general manager Jerry Jones also expressed doubts on the player’s participation in the season opener.
Talking to 105.3 FM “The Fan” on Friday, August 24, 2012, Jones maintained that Jenkins cannot step on the field until he gets approval from his doctor. Jones said of Jenkins’ participation:
“I don’t think so. He’s going to have his situation evaluated by his surgeon and it may be a little late in the preseason for him, but that’d be real interesting. If we had an evaluation on him by this weekend, I’d like to have that problem to mull over.
I really would.”
Jenkins has been suffering from a shoulder injury that has prevented him from participating in practice and training sessions actively throughout the offseason.
He will visit the doctor a few days before the game against Giants and many experts believe that even if he gets clearance from the doctors he will not be able to make it to the squad as he is out of practice.
However, that does not seem to be an issue for the Cowboys as they are focused more on the player’s recovery. Jones is not bothered by Jenkins’ lack of practice. The owner thinks that Jenkins is in proper shape and he will make it to the squad if the doctor
gives him clearance. He said:
“He’s in shape. I think he’s in real shape. I could conjure up a scenario where he could help us against the Giants for sure.”
Jenkins has missed the entire offseason workout and was not even able to make it to the first two preseason games. He will now certainly miss the next two preseason games and it is still not known when he will return.
Earlier, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett had also said that it would be better if Jenkins got some practice before stepping on the field, but it looks like he will not get the time to practice now.
