Dallas Cowboys CB Morris Claiborne wants to take more reps – NFL News
With just a few days left to the start of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) regular season, Dallas Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne wants to take as many reps as possible to prepare for his rookie season.
The Cowboys’ first-round pick of this year’s draft seems desperate to face the defending Super Bowl champions New York Giants in the season opener on September 05.
The Cowboys have one more preseason game to play and generally teams do not introduce their regular starters in preseason finales. However, Claiborne wants to get as much practice as possible and if coach Jason Garrett decides against introducing him in
the preseason finale, he will make up for it by working even harder during the practice and training sessions leading up to the season opener.
The Cowboys have played preseason games against Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers and St. Louis Rams. Throughout the offseason, Claiborne’s participation in training activities has remained limited due to different injuries. He did not play the preseason
game against Raiders, but participated in the games against Chargers and Rams.
The Cowboys will play their final preseason game against Miami Dolphins and it is not sure if Claiborne will be part of the squad. The cornerback has hoped to play against Dolphins, but he is willing to accept the coach’s decision.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Claiborne said of getting more reps:
“I feel like I can. But like I said, whatever the coaches have, that’s what I’m going to do.”
He added:
“The regular season is right around the corner. We’ve just got to go out and do our job. That’s when we have off time, don’t take it for granted – go study opponents. … Just keep working. Every time we have practice, walkthroughs, you’ve got to come in with
a mental mindset of focus, and get all you can get out of it.”
Meanwhile, Cowboys outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware and receiver Miles Austin have vowed to play against the Giants in the season opener. Both players are out with injuries.
Furthermore, the Cowboys are also hopeful of tight end Jason Witten’s return, but the team is not going to hurry and wants him to take as much time as he needs to recover.
