Dallas Cowboys DC Rob Ryan sees ‘a real player’ in linebacker Bruce Carter – NFL News
When the Dallas Cowboys selected linebacker Bruce Carter as 40th overall pick in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) draft, they knew that the player would not be able to take the field owing to an injury.
Carter was unable to train and rehab with the team due to the NFL lockout and when the season started he was not a member of the Cowboys’ active roster.
He continued rehabbing during the season and was eventually able to join the team after recovering.
However, the Cowboys were not bothered by any of this as they already had a plan in mind.
Carter played 10 games last year without starting any and recorded a total of eight tackles.
Despite that record, Carter can become the starter in the upcoming season. He has taken part in training sessions and offseason activities this year with all his teammates and his performance is clearly impressive.
Cowboys’ defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, who could not train the player before his rookie season, has praised Carter’s current performance saying that he has found ‘a real player’ in him.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Ryan is excited about the progress Carter has made. Ryan said of Carter:
"He's the guy we thought he was when we drafted him. It's been a long transition, but he's learning every day, and we're really excited about his progress. ... This work in progress is really on the come. He's been one of our guys out here that's really
looked good in this camp.”
Meanwhile, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett has also backed the player to earn the starting role in the 2012 season.
According to Garrett, Carter observed the game mostly from the sidelines last year and it will be beneficial for him and the team if he goes out to play on the field.
The head coach said of Carter:
"He's made those strides. From Year 1 to Year 2 is very significant in a player's development, and particularly with a player like that who was watching a lot in Year 1, you just want to see him out there playing. We're giving him every opportunity to do
that."
