Dallas Cowboys’ DeMarcus Ware acknowledges the opinion of Jared Allen about 25-sack season – NFL News
When Dallas Cowboys’ outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware was asked about what he thinks about Minnesota Vikings’ defensive end Jared Allen’s comment that he could score 25 sacks in a season, his reply was:
“With that coming from Jared Allen, who had 22 last year, the sky’s the limit.”
Ware was talking to media on Friday, June 29, 2012, while attending a Red Bull 7-on-7 high school football tournament in Dallas. He was very appreciative of Allen’s comments and also thanked him while looking at the camera.
Allen, 30, scored his career-best 22 sacks last season. He fell slightly short of beating the record of former New York Giants’ defensive end Michael Strahan, who had scored 22.5 sacks in the 2001 season.
All-Pro Allen is preparing to give another shot next season on breaking this record. Last month, while talking about getting 25 sacks in a season, he said:
"I think 25 is possible. I think someone eventually will get it. You look at the DeMarcus Wares of the league and the matchups he creates as a 3-4 guy (for the Dallas Cowboys).”
Ware had a sensational 2011 season. He scored 19.5 tackles and made 58 tackles while getting two forced fumbles.
His outstanding performance throughout the 2011 season was acknowledged by his fellow players who voted him and gave sixth spot in the National Football League (NFL) Network’s list of top 100 players of 2012.
Ware will soon be turning 30, the same age as Strahan was at the time when he set the record of most sacks.
He thinks players like Allen and Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Jason Babin could reach the landmark of 25 sacks. Ware said:
“I’ll also flip it back on him, and say, he can do the same thing, and also, Jason Babin. They’re playing really well. But it’s all about how the season goes. If it’s more of a passing season, we’re probably going to have more sacks.”
Babin is also a player in good form. Last season, he scored 18 sacks.
The Cowboys have strengthened their defence with the addition of free agent Brandon Carr this offseason. They have also drafted sixth pick in the first round of 2012 draft, Morris Claiborne, making him the top cornerback of the draft.
Ware thinks that strengthening the defence will be of no help to him in achieving the target.
With Ware being one of only eight players ever to have scored 20 and above sacks in a season, he has what it takes to become the first player to score 20 and more sacks twice in his career.
