Dallas Cowboys LB DeMarcus Ware supports Tony Romo – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware considers Tony Romo an elite quarterback and thinks that the player’s inability to win any major title for the team is because of the lacklustre performance of the players around him.
Talking to ESPN, Ware mentioned players like New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning, who won the Super Bowl last season, New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees and Pittsburgh Steelers’ Roethlisberger and said that these players are able to win major games for their
teams because they have good support around them.
The linebacker said:
"When you have a quarterback that wins a championship -- like an Eli (Manning) or Drew Brees or any of those guys, (Ben) Roethlisberger -- those guys get put on a different pedestal once they got to that championship. (It is) because everyone around knew
what it took to get there.”
Ware added:
"I look at (Romo) and say he is (an elite quarterback). He's been that way every year. We've just got to find some way to get there. It takes a team. It's not just the offence, it's not just the defence or special teams.”
Romo is statistically a better quarterback than many others in the league, but he is seen struggling at crucial moments and is not very well when it comes to handling pressure.
In his career, Romo has very few playoff games to his name and his victory ratio in postseason is not very commendable.
It has been a long time since the Cowboys won their last Super Bowl title and even though Romo has come close to breaking the long drought, the quarterback has not yet been able to bring the Cowboys’ glorious days back.
Throughout the offseason, Romo has been brought in the line of fire while he has also received support from many critics.
With the 2012 season around the corner, it will be interesting to see how Romo performs. There is no denying that Ware is right when he demands more support from the offence as well as the defence for the quarterback. The Cowboys also realise this and now
the management must urge the players to play up to their potential so as to provide Romo the due support.
