Dallas Cowboys LB Sean Lee to undergo season-ending surgery – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee will have to sit out the entire season after it was confirmed that he will require a season-ending surgery to repair torn ligaments in his toe.
The development was reported by different media outlets, including Cowboys’ team website, but head coach Jason Garrett is yet to announce it.
It is expected that Garrett will confirm this news on Wednesday during his press conference. The official announcement was not made on Tuesday because Cowboys had an off day.
Cowboys had feared that Lee’s injury might be of serious nature; however, nothing had been confirmed earlier as the player was expected to undergo MRI scans last Monday.
Earlier, Garrett also said that he would determine the player’s status for future games once he got the MRI results.
This season, Lee played and started all six games for the Cowboys. He registered a total of 58 tackles, recorded one interception and forced one fumble.
The linebacker suffered the injury during last week’s game against Carolina Panthers. Initially, he tried to play through it, but could not do so and was forced out. It was not assumed then that the injury would end the season for him.
Lee has been ranked among the best defensive players for the Cowboys and his absence is certainly going to be felt by the team, especially in the next game in which Cowboys will host defending Super Bowl champions and current National Football Conference
(NFC) East leaders New York Giants.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Lee will undergo the surgery next week, but the team might immediately place him on injured reserve (IR).
This will allow the Cowboys to get his immediate replacement, who could be used in the game against Giants.
Since Lee will go to IR, Cowboys will need some roster space to bring in the linebacker’s replacement. Cowboys have some extra players who might be shown the door to make room for Lee’s replacement, who must be a veteran because Cowboys desperately need
strength at the position.
Cowboys are also expected to make some roster adjustments within one or two days.
