Dallas Cowboys Morris Claiborne not in hurry for contract – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys’ first-round pick in this year’s draft, linebacker Morris Claiborne, has not yet been able to properly train with his teammates owing to a shoulder injury and has been expecting to show his true class in training camp that is going to start
pretty soon.
However, the linebacker will not be able to attend the camp unless he signs a contract with the team. As per the National Football League (NFL) rules, rookies have to be under contract before joining the camp.
Claiborne’s agent and Cowboys have not yet agreed to a deal, but the player does not seem bothered about it.
He has clearly stated that he is not in rush for getting contract, but at the same time he has also made it clear that he is going to the camp even if he has not signed contract.
According to the Shreveport Times, the cornerback said of his contract situation:
“I have no idea. I let my agents and those guys handle that. So far, they seem to be doing a pretty good job. I’ll patiently wait. I’m not in no hurry. You hear a lot of talk about people saying I’m holding out. No I’m not holding out. I’m going to camp
signed or not signed. It don’t matter.”
Claiborne’s selection was a bit of surprise for the NFL community. Cowboys unexpectedly traded up their pick with the St. Louis Rams to draft the linebacker.
Although the player was not hundred percent and the Cowboys knew it too, the team did not hesitate in drafting him. The Cowboys are coming into the 2012 season with a new defensive strategy and Claiborne is expected to play a major role to make this scheme
successful.
He is yet to show his true talent as doctors have not allowed him to participate in rigorous drills, but he is expected to be totally fit and healthy before the season. Expressing his eagerness to be able to play with his teammates, Claiborne said:
“I can’t wait. It’s been a while because of my wrist, so far so good. It’s getting healthy and I’m ready for camp to start.”
