Dallas Cowboys Owner/General Manager Jerry Jones not ready to give up his posts – NFL News
Ever since he has bought the franchise, the Owner and General Manger of Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones, is not among the fans’ favourite sports personalities.
However, the 69-year-old does not seem bothered by what others think about him and is planning to continue his job as long as he can.
On Tuesday, he once again reiterated that he is not giving up the franchise’s ownership and fervently declared that he would continue to work as Cowboys’ general manager.
Jones acquired the ownership of the franchise in 1989 for $ 140 million. He kicked off well and the Cowboys won three Super Bowls early in his tenure.
However, since 1995, when the Cowboys won their last Super Bowl, the franchise has failed badly.
After 1995, the Cowboys have marked seven playoff-appearances, failing every time to regain the lost glory.
The just-concluded regular season did not help their cause either and a loss in the regular season finale against New York Giants sent the Cowboys packing.
Notwithstanding these details, Jones is committed to continue working. He is well aware of the criticism and does not seem nervy after coming under the line of fire.
“The facts are that I've spent 22 years doing this exactly the same way," he said.
"I've made a lot of changes from year to year as time goes along, but frankly, I know that when we do not have the kind of success, when we don't have expectations lived up to, the one that should get the most heat is the one that ultimately makes the decisions,
period, with the Dallas Cowboys. And that's me."
Only the owner has the right to appoint or fire a GM, and since Jones holds both the positions, the only way to introduce a new GM is when Jones voluntarily gives up. And that is not going to happen, not in the near future at least.
It was widely speculated that Jones might approach the recently-fired Indianapolis Colts Vice Chairman, Bill Polian, and offer him a post at his franchise’s front office.
Jones, however, rubbished all the speculations and said that he had no intentions of introducing any new face to run the franchise’s affairs.
While pointing out that the Cowboys spend more money than any other team in the league in terms of paying the players and the staff, he said that the team only needs to perform well to get good results and not to worry about the financial matters.
