Dallas Cowboys’ QB coach Wade Wilson: Tony Romo can be productive for long time if stays healthy
Dallas Cowboys’ quarterbacks’ coach, Wade Wilson, who himself played as a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) from 1981 to 1999, has said that Cowboys’ present quarterback, Tony Romo, 32, can be productive for a lot more years if he stays fit
and healthy.
Wilsons’ remarks came as a response to some reports suggesting Cowboys to find Romo’s replacement as he is growing older.
However, Wilson thinks that every quarterback in the league is capable of playing well for a long time if he maintains his health properly.
Romo has been playing for the Cowboys since starting is professional NFL career in 2003. Last year, he displayed on of the best performances of his career and the Cowboys are expecting him to be more productive in the upcoming season.
In 16 games of the regular season last year, Romo completed a total of 346 passes of 522 attempts and gained 4,184 yards while scoring 31 touchdowns and received a quarterback rating of 102.5. He also threw 10 interceptions and was rated among the best quarterbacks
of the season.
Wilson thinks that Romo will deliver his best in the next season as well and might stage another spectacular performance to lead the Cowboys to victories.
He mentioned that Romo works out regularly to keep himself fit and healthy and that’s why, the coach said, Romo can play for a longer period of time.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Wilson said:
“Tony takes great care of himself with his conditioning and his off-football sports, soccer and basketball and those kinds of things, I think it helps him on the football field. And you can certainly get a great understanding of what the defences are trying
to do, so anything that you lose physically, you can make up for it mentally."
Wilson asserted that age does not matter when it comes to playing good game. He was of the view that the healthier a player is the better he is able to perform.
He said:
"I've seen some guys 32 that look like they're 25, and vice versa. I think if you take care of yourself, there's no reason he shouldn't be productive for a lot more years."
