Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo fails to qualify for the US Open
Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Tony Romo has again failed to qualify for the upcoming US Open when he shot nine-over, 81 at the Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney, Texas.
Romo, with his over-par score was not able to make it into the list of players who qualified for the next round and will have to wait for another year to launch his bid for the same. Top 10 golfers from Monday’s event will move on to the next stage at Dallas
Athletic Club next month.
The qualifier was held under extreme windy conditions and Romo ended up bogeying one, two, five, 11 and 18. As if the bogey spree was lacking reinforcements, the cowboy went over to double bogey the eighth and triple bogey the 15th. His card boosted
of a round with ten bogeys and a lone birdie that came at par-5, 7th.
"The golf course is probably the toughest in the area but when you add the USGA with their greens and some of the pin placements, then add to that the wind, it was a monster today," Romo said. "It was as tough as I've seen it out here."
The series of qualifying round will lead to the finalists who would be eligible to participate in the US Open scheduled from June 16 to 19 at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland. The Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett seems to be at home with
his quarterback’s interest in golf and lends complete support to the player.
"We've never viewed it as a distraction," Garrett said. "He's always the first guy in the building. He stays there late. He loves football and he loves his role as the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. He's never shown us any reason to think that it's a
distraction in any way from what he's doing for us with the Cowboys."
Garrett also said that the players have been doing their off-season workouts in the normal way and whatever else they decide to do in the off-season is not a matter of concern for the club. Garrett supports the player’s point of view of switching to different
sports when they are laid off from their primary obligation as it improves the competitive spirit of any sportsman.
