Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray wants more playing time in preseason – NFL News
It is not unusual to see teams utilising their key players briefly during their preseason games so as to prevent them from sustaining injuries, but Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray wants to get as much playing time as possible.
Generally, teams do not give more playing time to their key players during initial preseason games, but these players start receiving more time on the field as preseason nears its end. This is done to get them ready for regular season.
Cowboys played their first preseason game of this season against Oakland Raiders last Monday. Murray was unable to spend more time on the field in the low-scoring game that the Cowboys won 3-0.
Murray finished with only two carries without gaining any yard. The Cowboys will play their next preseason game against San Diego Chargers this Saturday while they will take on St. Louis Rams in their third preseason game next Saturday.
Murray is expected to get more playing time in the game against Chargers, while he will get even more time to spend on the field against Rams.
He is desperate to get in rhythm and spend time on the field and although he has not questioned the decision of the management, he has expressed desire to get more reps. According to the details present on the team’s website, Murray said:
“I didn’t even get to get my feet wet last game. But Coach Garrett is a great coach. He definitely understands what’s necessary for the team, and I didn’t question him at all. But, I’m definitely looking forward to this game and getting more reps.”
Although it is important for the management to take care of the players and prevent any injury risk, Murray does not seem bothered about it. He said:
“You can’t think about that. I have to be out there. I want to be out there to work hard and compete at a high level. So you just can’t worry about those things.”
Murray debuted for the Cowboys last year and was magnificent before he sustained an injury. The Cowboys want to ensure that he stays fit throughout the 2012 season and that is why they are adopting precautionary measures.
