Dallas Cowboys’ SVP Alec Scheiner replaces Mike Holmgren as Cleveland Browns president – NFL News
The Cleveland Browns announced to have found replacement for Mike Holmgren who left the team last month on expiry of his contract, and the new and first hiring under reign of new owner Jimmy Haslam and chief executive officer (CEO) Joe Banner is Alec Scheiner,
the new president.
Scheiner who said to be in negotiations with Banner since June this year has deserted the Dallas Cowboys whom he served as a senior vice president and general counsel for past eight years.
Banner said of the hiring:
"Alec and I started talking last June. We had a series of meetings. We just felt like it was a great fit. He's going to impact the organisation in a lot of ways."
It is first and the most significant recruitment by Banner who arrived in the town tasked with rebuilding of the Browns about a month earlier. Soon after his arrival, previous president Holmgren who neared the end of his terms with the team opted to walk
out of the headquarters. He was not asked to stay longer.
Scheiner said to be pleased with the outcome of the talks around his new assignment, although neither of the sides disclosed terms of his contract along with the announcement of his signing.
The new president said:
"Jimmy and Joe have a great vision of what they want the Cleveland Browns to become and I am grateful to be able to be a part of it. The Browns are an iconic franchise with an outstanding fan base and tradition. Together, we hope to do incredible things
for the organisation."
It is not clarified when Scheiner will formally assume the charge but he nevertheless is going to be in control of most of the team’s affairs along with Banner from now own.
This minimises the role of general manager Tom Heckert. Since the season is almost finished now, particularly in the Browns’ record context (5-9), Heckert might be the next official to be sent packing.
With two more games to go in the regular season, the Browns are expected to formally kick start their rebuilding exercise and probably at a greater pace then.
