Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten hopeful to return for season opener against New York Giants – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, who is out of training camp and probably the entire preseason owing to an injury, has hoped to join the squad back for Cowboys’ regular season opener against the defending Super Bowl champions New York Giants, to be
played on September 05.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Witten spoke to media on Thursday and expressed his desire to return to the squad for the game against Giants. However, he mentioned that there was no exact timeline for his return. He said:
“Right now I’m doing alright. I’m just going to take it a day at a time. Obviously, I’d be hard-pressed to imagine not being out there against the Giants. But there’s no timetable right now.”
Witten received the injury during their first preseason game against Oakland Raiders. Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett later confirmed that the tight end would be out of the squad for the next two preseason games, while some reports even claimed that Witten
would be out of the squad for the entire preseason.
Now the latest reports also imply that he might miss the entire preseason campaign. It is difficult for the veteran tight end to sit back and see his teammates practising. He said:
“It’s hard … just thinking about sitting in that hotel when the team is working. It’s a challenge. Ultimately it’s the best thing you can do for the team. We’ve got plenty of guys to pick up the slack. That’s not a concern. For me, I think it’s just get
healthy as quickly as you can. We’ll regroup when we get back to Dallas.”
The Cowboys have so far had a pretty bad preseason. Although they were able to win their preseason game against Raiders, many of their players have received different injuries during the last two weeks.
The management is still not that much bothered as it is not unusual for players to sustain injuries, but many key players including Witten and Cowboys’ first round draft pick of this year Morris Claiborne are not hundred percent. Claiborne is recovering
fast and is expected to make his debut in the Cowboys’ next preseason game.
