Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten needs clearance to play season opener against New York Giants – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten has hoped to play the regular season opener against New York Giants, but the player is well aware of the fact that his participation is subjected to receiving clearance from the team.
Witten was injured during the Cowboys first preseason game last month against Oakland Raiders. The injury has sidelined him from participating in any sort of training activity.
The tight end showed an impressive recovery and it was assumed that he might be able to play the season opener. However, it was later reported the Witten might not be able to play against Giants, but many reports strongly indicated that even if he missed
the game against Giants, the tight end will surely be part of the playing line-up in Week 2 game.
Witten’s status is still unclear, but the player has said that if he gets clearance he will even make it to the game against Giants. The player said:
“If I get cleared, we're playing. It's the only way, I believe, you can approach the game. I think people know that's the only way I'm playing. This is what you play for."
Earlier on Saturday, Witten was present at the team’s facility with full pads. Later, he said that he had felt good. According to the details present on the team’s website, Witten said after Saturday’s practice:
“I think we know where it’s at. I’ve just got to get cleared and put in position to play. It feels good. It feels really good. So, it was good to run around and actually put the pads on and stuff.”
Witten has missed only one game in his entire National Football League (NFL) career and he is fortunate that the record is not going to be affected intensely. His injury could have required surgery that might have forced him out of the half of the 2012 season,
if not the entire season, but doctors suggested that there was no need of surgery and the player would recover soon without it.
The Cowboys must be delighted to see Witten back in squad for the Giants game, but they understand the gravity of the situation and might not take any risk.
