Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten recovering fast – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, who is out with a spleen injury, is reportedly recovering at fast pace with some reports suggesting that the team has decided to make a call on his participation in the season opener against New York Giants just before
the game.
Witten, who has been one of the most consistent players as far as participation in games is concerned in the entire National Football League (NFL), was injured earlier this month. He was asked to remain limited for around 7-10 days.
The tight end underwent a medical examination on Tuesday and received positive feedback from doctors. According to ESPN, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett is satisfied with the recovery pace of the player. The head coach has hoped to have Witten back soon.
Garrett said:
"He had a positive report from the doctors yesterday. His spleen is healing, it is getting better. His work on the field has become more extensive, he's been running, he's been catching balls. We're hopeful that he can do something as the practice week starts
on Saturday. We'll just continue to make that evaluation. He's going to be evaluated by doctors for a while."
According to the details present on the team’s website, Witten is likely to join the Cowboys squad for the game against Giants. He will be listed as questionable for the game and could make it to the final line-up if the coaches want.
Witten was injured during the Cowboys preseason opener against Oakland Raiders. The Cowboys won that game, but the tight end was asked not to participate in the rest of the preseason games. He missed the games against San Diego Chargers, St. Louis Rams and
Miami Dolphins.
Earlier it was expected that he might need surgery to treat the injury that could have forced him out of the entire season as well, but recent reports suggest that he does not need any surgery.
Witten’s return will certainly be helpful for the Cowboys, who are also hoping for return of Miles Austin and DeMarcus Ware before the start of the regular season.
Meanwhile, Cowboys’ first-round pick of this year’s draft Morris Claiborne has also received clearance from doctors to play. The cornerback will be available for the game against Giants.
