Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten reflects on participation against New York Giants – NFL News
Despite being injured, Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, who had missed three preseason games and training activities prior to the start of the new season, participated in the season opener against New York Giants. It was tough for him to play the game,
but he did not want to let the opportunity go.
In his entire career, Witten has only missed one game for the Cowboys and he was able to maintain the streak with the participation against Giants. However, that was not easy for him as he was in the recovery phase. Also, he spent relatively less time on
the field.
Witten had a spleen injury and he was fortunate enough not to take any hit on his abdomen during the game. This was also motivating for other players, who saw the veteran performing well on the field without any prior practice.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Witten said of the game:
“I think there’s been a mindset that’s been around this team all training camp and offseason, not just with me, but with everybody, that’s just taking advantage of opportunities, doing whatever it takes, not letting excuses get in the way of what you want
to accomplish. It’s not easy. Sometimes you’re going to be in adverse situations. Obviously that was one for me. But I really wanted to play in that game.”
After playing Week 1 game, it is expected that Witten will be part of the squad in Week 2 game against Seattle Seahawks, but the Cowboys have not yet confirmed his participation in the game.
The Cowboys have said that they are going to monitor Witten’s output during training sessions before the game and then decide his status for the game. He is, however, taking full part in practice and might be able to start against the Seahawks. The tight
end hopes to make it to the squad and said:
“I don’t think it’s going to be an achy situation. I’m still recovering, and it’s a process. But I’m not going to allow that to be any setback for me.”
The game will be played on the Seahawks home field.
