Dallas Cowboys’ Tony Romo pays high regards to Troy Aikman – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback, Tony Romo, has referred to the franchise’s former quarterback, Troy Aikman, as one of the best in the National Football League (NFL) and said on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, that “Aikman is on his own mountaintop by himself”.
Romo’s remarks came after Aikman sung Romo’s praise last month and said that Tony was better quarterback than him.
However, Romo thinks that he in no way can compete with Aikman, who led the Cowboys to three Super Bowl victories in his 12-year career with the franchise.
Not only this, Aikman’s achievements easily surpass Romo’s. Aikman was named to the Pro Bowl squad for six times in his career. He made it to the All-Pro three times and was also declared the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Super Bowl XXVII.
Contrarily, Romo is yet to earn a Super Bowl ring for the Cowboys.
Romo thinks that appreciation from Aikman means a lot to him, but the player asserted that the former Pro Football Hall of Famer was just being nice to him.
Romo said:
"I think first, whenever Troy Aikman says anything in a positive way about you as a quarterback, it makes you feel good. For me, it just means that Troy thinks that you're doing something right, and I think that's exciting from a quarterback's perspective, coming from a guy who's one of the greatest players ever to play in the game.”
When Aikman uttered the remarks for Romo, many critics made fun of the statement and said that Romo did not deserve the honour to be rated as better than Aikman.
Nevertheless, Romo has smartly shrugged off those critics and paid high regards to Aikman.
He said:
“I don't think I belong in that discussion, so Troy I think was being nice. But definitely I'm not going to wash it away and say it doesn't matter because it makes me feel good, so I'm going to take that.”
Romo, 32, has played nine seasons for the Cowboys. He does not have many more years to play for the team and he is desperately trying to earn a Super Bowl ring before he call it quits.
