Dallas Cowboys WR Cole Beasley says he is more versatile than Patriots WR Wes Welker
For a rookie being compared to a veteran player who has delivered over a number of seasons and playing for one of the best teams in the league is kind of an honour but not for Dallas Cowboys rookie wide receiver, Cole Beasley.
Beasley’s frame and height have led many to compare him to New England Patriots wide receiver, Wes Welker and what has been seen during the offseason minicamp and organised team activities his game is also similar to Welker’s.
However, Beasley is getting tired of the constant comparisons to Welker and in an interview on Tuesday with 105.3 The Fan’s RAGE radio show said that they both are similar but he packs more speed and versatility than the Patriots receiver.
He said:
“I get tired of it a little bit because I feel like I have a little bit more speed than Wes Welker does.”
Adding further he said:
“He’s got a little bigger frame than me but I feel like I’ve got a little more versatility to my game than he does. I do have similarities with him but I feel like I can play a little bit more outside [than him], as well as inside.”
Even though he felt annoyed, Beasley went on to praise Welker and said that he is a great player who opened up the game for players of his size who look to make it in the National Football League (NFL).
“He’s a great player. He’s one of the best in the game and he’s doing a lot of things that people said people our size couldn’t do, so he pretty much opened the door for me to get in the NFL.”
Beasley was also asked whether he would have made the catch Welker dropped in the last quarter of the Super Bowl that could have potentially won the game for the Patriots.
The rookie did not let the opportunity pass and confidently replied that he would have caught the pass if it was him instead of Welker.
Beasley will compete for the open third wide receiver spot at the Cowboys during training camp and from what has been seen till now the receiver has all the makings of a good player in the future for Dallas.
