Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant: Anyone could become third receiver – NFL News
As they enter the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season, Dallas Cowboys have two great wide receivers in Dez Bryant and Miles Austin. However, the number three spot is still wide open and the team has not yet decided who will be placed at that position.
After the departure of Laurent Robinson, who has now joined Jacksonville Jaguars, the Cowboys have to fill that spot and apparently they are struggling to do so.
Some might suggest that the Cowboys do not have that much talent, but Bryant thinks otherwise.
The receiver told ESPN that there are a number of players who can fill that spot and that everyone is capable of performing well at the position.
He said:
“To be honest, all the wideouts are great. All the wideouts have been doing a fantastic job. From what I see, it's kind of hard. Either guy could fill that slot. They've really been showing they're worthy of it."
The same sentiments were also echoed by head coach Jason Garrett earlier. He was of the view that the Cowboys would not go for signing any new player and that the roster already had talented players to fill the third receiver’s position.
It is expected that the team will announce the third receiver in training camp, which is going to start pretty soon.
Meanwhile, Bryant, who is still relatively young in the league, is adjusting into the system quite nicely.
He was brilliant in his rookie season that enabled him to gain more playing time last year. In the 2010 season, Bryant played 12 games while starting two. He registered 561 yards for 45 receptions while scoring six touchdowns.
In the last season, he started 13 games while playing 15. He got 928 yards for 63 receptions and scored nine touchdowns. He has said that he is learning the game with every season.
According to Bryant:
“Last year with the lockout, I thought I felt comfortable. Now, I guess each year I feel a little more comfortable. It just makes me want to go out and play more and more. I want to continue to keep learning because I feel the more I learn, the better and
the slower the game gets.”
