Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant asked for guidance, claims his adviser – NFL News
Although it first appeared that the Dallas Cowboys had imposed strict guidelines on their wide receiver Dez Bryant to prevent him from off-field distractions, some recent reports have claimed that it was the player who had asked for such guidelines and the
team just extended its support to help the receiver.
Bryant’s adviser David Wells has rubbished the impression that the Cowboys wanted strict guidelines for the player and claimed that Bryant himself asked for such rules that would keep his profile clean.
Talking to KESN-FM 103.3 in Dallas on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, Wells said of Bryant and the guidelines:
“He wanted to make some changes himself. He wanted to put some people around him that also could be there in case something happened, that they would be able to attest to what’s going on with him.”
Earlier, it was reported that the Cowboys have imposed strict guidelines on Bryant and he will be monitored constantly on and off the field.
It was also reported that he would have to take prior approval from the Cowboys before attending any night club while a three-man security team was also assigned to accompany the player. There are some more rules that the player is expected to follow.
This was apparently the result of Bryant’s involvement in a police case recently. He allegedly assaulted his mother and was all over the news. He has not been allowed to talk to media since then.
He has already been in the limelight for a few negative reasons in his short National Football League (NFL) career and the Cowboys do not want him to be in any sort of trouble anymore.
It looks like Bryant has also realised that he needs to move on and live up to the team’s expectations and that is why he wants to dedicate his entire focus on the game.
Wells said of Bryant:
“He also wanted to make sure, to the Dallas Cowboy fans, that he’s going to do everything he can to make sure that he’s out there every day, not only practicing as hard as he can, but also on game day producing the product that the Dallas Cowboys want.”
Wells added:
“He [Bryant] looks at life a lot different now.”
