Dallas Cowboys’ WR Dez Bryant expresses views on third receiver spot – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys’ wide receiver, Dez Bryant, has said that the spot of third receiver on the roster is still wide open and anybody could take the position.
Bryant, who got the starting role last year after Roy Williams parted ways with the team, is expected to be the starter along with Miles Austin in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season.
However, the Cowboys need a third receiver as Laurent Robinson has also left the team.
As Williams’ departure provided an opportunity for Bryant to become the starter, Robinson’s exit has also given a chance to other receivers on the roster to earn the starting role.
However, the Cowboys have not yet decided who will be their third receiver. They have selected some players during this year’s draft and some others are already present on the roster to fill in the spot.
Bryant believes that the competition is wide open and anybody could earn the role. According to the details present on the team’s official website, he said:
"I feel like the way the guys are working right now, anybody can fill that position. Everybody is doing good, everybody is working hard. Everybody just wants to step up and play their role."
The same views were also shared some time ago by Cowboys’ wide receivers coach, Jimmy Robinson.
He was of the view that the management would monitor performance of all the players during organised team activities (OTAs) and training camp before making a final call in this matter.
He also said that the competition was open and anybody could be the third receiver. He said:
"I think it is fairly open, yeah. We've got to have someone step up and say, 'Hey this is my job.' If we don't, then it's going to be by committee. We're not even close to saying who that guy is. We've got a number of guys who work in that slot. We'll see
how it goes."
When head coach, Jason Garrett, was asked about the third receiver, he too did not spill the beans, saying that the players would be given a chance to prove their talent. He said:
"We've got a lot of guys in that role. We're going to give a lot of guys a chance to show what they can do.”
